The Characteristics of AISI 420 Stainless Steel

High chromatic and stainless steel X46Cr13 / X40Cr14 and AISI 420 is tool steel, which characteristic is very difficult to wear. Is capable of hardening in the annealed or tempered. Therefore, its most important function is the quenching and tempering. Steel 1.4034 is resistant to atmospheric corrosion, or natural waters with the exception of mine waters and marine; diluted cold solutions of salt; some organic and inorganic acids; gasoline or any liquid fuels, fumes of oil and grease, spirits and foods containing preservatives or salt.

Properties of Stainless Steel Tool Version X40Cr14 / 1.2083

This grade of stainless steel has very interesting chemical properties. First of all, it is an extremely hard material for processing, with parameters: 52-54 HRC. All the processes to which X40Cr14 steel is subjected take place at variable temperatures. The second most important feature of this steel grade is its high corrosion resistance and adaptability to work with organic acids, alcoholic and hydrochloric substances. Most steel is in the form of bars, forgings, sheets, drawn wires or cold-rolled strips.

The modulus of elasticity of steel is E 215 GPa. Forging and rolling of this steel grade is possible at temperatures from 800 - 1100 °C. Nitriding at temperatures from 470 - 520 °C and hardening at temperatures from 1000 - 1500 °C. Tempering process at temperatures from 150 - 300 °C (first stage), second stage at 400 - 600 °C. Softening annealing at 750 - 800 °C, relaxing expression at 600 - 700 °C. The steel achieves hardness after softening annealing equal to 241 HB and in the tempered state 300 HB.

Uses of steel 1.4034

The grade is used in surgery for the manufacture of various surgical instruments and in the automotive industry for the manufacture of pressed bearings, springs and wear parts. Is also used for dies, which are used to shape plastic products that act on corrosion, pressure chambers and moulds for casting light metal alloys under pressure. Steel is used in the chemical, petrochemical, machinery, food and automotive industries. It is used to manufacture components such as pipes, bushings, bearings, springs, bolts. It is also used as a material for slicing or cutting equipment. It is thanks to it that kitchen knives, scalpels and measuring devices are created.
